Explore the Legal Steps taken by the European Union

to build an Ethically Digital European Space

The European Union considers the digitalization of contemporary society a source of opportunities for the benefit of its citizens, but also a risk factor for the protection of the values and rights it promotes.

For these reasons, and in light of the concrete impact that digital evolution has on the daily lives of European families and businesses, the European Commission has decided to include it among the priority areas of its legislative and executive activity, acting earlier than others to put forward the most appropriate legislative proposals to meet the protection needs of different interest groups.

It has also been able to adapt its rules in the face of the constant change that is now typical of the digital era, which is characterized by the ability to rapidly incorporate the most recent technological innovations designed to simplify people’s lives, often, however, without providing them with the necessary tools to understand the current context and forcing them into sudden adaptations.

This course is designed to explore the two main areas on which the EU has focused its attention in the digital context: the protection of the privacy of European citizens and the protection of European consumers.

Together with sector experts, participants will examine in depth the reasons for and the content of legislative acts adopted by the European bodies and which are now fundamental for understanding the European approach to digitalization. The analysis will be accompanied by concrete examples of the application of the rules, in true CCBI style, long distinguished by the combination of theory and practice in its activities.

The course is preparatory to Module 3 of Master IMES-International Master in European Studies, designed to provide the tools for an effective application of AI in EU project design.
