The Master's in Brief

IMES - International Master in European Studies is the postgraduate Master's programme that the Chamber has been organising for over twenty years to create a bridge between funding opportunities for innovative local, national, and international projects and the European Union.

Thought out for both recent graduates and experienced professionals already established in their field but still eager to expand their knowledge, the 41st edition of IMES is renewed with 4 learning modules designed for:

  • to provide a solid understanding of the structure and functioning of the European Union
  • understand the main EU funding programmes supporting European values and the green, social, and digital transitions
  • acquire skills to successfully draft and implement EU-funded projects
  • navigating the international work environment in Brussels

The complete programme​

The programme, entirely in English and conducted in a hybrid format online and in Brussels, offers practical and focused training that allows for the rapid development of professional skills.

The Europe Desk of the Chamber collaborates with the lecturers of the Catholic University of Leuven and with experts from European institutions and Italian and international organisations based in Brussels to train qualified European policy consultants and project managers.

This section provides a comprehensive overview of the theoretical foundations necessary to understand the history and structure of the European Union and the funding opportunities it offers, as well as Project Management techniques.

Structure

The lessons take place online:

  • Tuesday and Thursday
  • from 18:30 to 21:00

Contents

The students will deepen their understanding of:

  • The institutional system of the European Union: history, bodies and decision-making processes
  • The budget of the European Union: the Multiannual Financial Framework and funding opportunities
  • Writing a quality project: creation and drafting of a project proposal and a workplan, management of a consortium
  • Management of a project budget: how to fulfil financial management and reporting obligations
  • Monitoring and communication: techniques for drafting quality reports and disseminating results

The students will take a knowledge assessment test at the end of the Module.

Learning thus unites theory and practice thanks to the guidance of professionals who have developed their experience by working directly in SMEs, NGOs, public bodies, and international organisations.

This module is designed to teach how to navigate and understand the European Union's funding programmes, identifying the most suitable one for each idea and need, and understanding the specific rules of each programme through the study and analysis of case studies.

Structure

The lessons take place online:

  • Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Saturday from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm

Lessons will be suspended from 28 April to 2 May inclusive. The lesson on Thursday 14 May will be brought forward to Wednesday 13 May.

Contents

The students will deepen their understanding of the programmes related to the strategic priorities of the European Union:

  • Culture and Youth: Erasmus+ and Creative Europe Programmes
  • Research and Innovation: Horizon Europe Programme
  • Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship: SMP and ESF+ Programmes
  • Regional Development and Social Inclusion: JTF and RRF Programmes
  • Agriculture: funding opportunities under the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) 

The lessons are conducted by EU consultants and experts, representatives of the European Commission, and our professionals with extensive experience in the field of Euro-projecting, who will guide the students during the Saturday workshops to concretely develop a project proposal.

The students will develop a project proposal and will be assessed on its content and quality.

This module is designed to teach how to navigate and understand the European Union's funding programmes, identifying the most suitable one for each idea and need, and understanding the specific rules of each programme through the study and analysis of case studies.

Structure

The lessons take place online:

  • Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

The lesson on 2nd June will exceptionally be moved to the following day (3rd June).

Contents

The students will learn to apply Artificial Intelligence during the drafting of project proposals and the implementation of projects selected by the European Commission for funding.

The students will take a knowledge assessment test at the end of the Module.

Practical learning is combined with knowledge of the European legislative landscape in the digital field that can be acquired by taking the course Sustainable Digital Development in the EU.

This module offers an opportunity to connect with institutional and entrepreneurial realities active in the European context in Brussels, as well as with the businesses and entrepreneurs that make up the contact network of the Chamber.

Structure

The lessons take place in a hybrid format - online and in Brussels.

The students will learn how to successfully start their career in the field of Euro-projecting:

  • CV and cover letter: techniques and tips for effective writing
  • Guided Tender Simulation: workshop for the design of a Project Work
  • Career day: 2 meetings with Italian and international business realities in Brussels
  • Institutional visits: getting to know the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the Committee of the Regions, and the European Economic and Social Council up close

Thanks to the suggestions and the practical work carried out together with experts and consultants in euro-projecting, as well as the meetings at the offices of companies and entrepreneurs active in Brussels in various fields, students will learn how to navigate an ever-evolving international context.

You will be able to further expand your knowledge and skills in building your network of contacts in Brussels by attending the dedicated CCBI course  Corporate Skills: Raggiungere Bruxelles.

Costs and registration

The total cost for attending the Master's programme is € 3,900.00.

The Chamber offers the option to choose the "EU and EU Project Management Foundations" frequency package (Modules 1, 2, 3) for a cost of €3,200.00. Alternatively, one may decide to attend

the individual Module 1, 2 or 3 for a cost of € 1200.00

Module 4 for a cost of € 1500.00

Modules 1 and 4 for a cost of € 2,500.00

The first 10 registrants will enjoy a 15% discount on the total cost of the Master programme. Alternatively, they can benefit from a 10% discount on the cost of attending the other options.

Certificates

The Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce issues the Certificate of Participation to students attending IMES for a minimum of 80% of the total duration of the Master.

Those who pass and exceed the knowledge assessment tests are also awarded the Diploma in European Studies and Europrojecting Techniques.

Acknowledgements

Attending this intensive international postgraduate Master's programme provides students with the professional tools necessary to navigate a vibrant and constantly changing job market. The Master's does not award university credits, but alongside the Diploma in European Studies and Europroject Management, it offers practical skills and networking opportunities.

  • Positions in private companies, consultancy firms, and organisations that access funding through EU contracts (such as universities and NGOs). Responsibilities include managing tenders, business development, and providing support services for European institutions.
